Pakistan 'Pakistunned' Their Way In to the Semi-Final

With a charge led by the Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi, the Pakistani Cricket Team has managed to storm their way in to the semi-finals, after beating West Indies in the crucial Quarter Final here at the Sher-e-Bangla cricket stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Wednesday.

This is the first time the Pakistani cricket team has entered the semi-finals, since entering the semi-finals in England in 1999 and losing to Australia.

The West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first on a sluggish pitch and suffered the consequences. A Pakistani spin bowling attack spearheaded by Afridi, bowled West Indies out for 112, setting a target of 113 to win for Pakistan, a target Pakistan easily reached in the 21st over.

No one could believe the way the West Indies wickets fell and this is why the term ‘Pakistunned’ was coined and went viral on the social networking website Twitter. Thousands of Pakistanis watching the match worldwide, used the word Pakistunned, also referring to the victory over West Indies as ‘Pakistan Pakistunned the West Indies’.

Shahid Afridi, the leg spinner, took 4 wickets, including two wickets off successive balls, which takes his tournament tally to 21 and also he remains as the highest wicket taker of the World Cup so far. Off spinners Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal took two wickets each, as West Indies batting collapsed really badly.

Openers Hafeez and Kamran Akmal then made sure with an unbeaten knock of 61 from 64 balls and Akmal with a not out 47, that Pakistan saw Victory and an end to this day night match very quickly.

Best wishes to the Pakistani team, who now face either India or Australia, depending on the outcome of their Quarter Final on Thursday, at Mohali, Ahmadabad on Wednesday 30th March.
